The Odd Sockery began with the purchase of a Gearhart Antique Circular Sock Machine circa 1904, brought back to life from its previous American museum home, by Janine Wilson and Leanne Wills.
These women have worked with, and been lovers of fibre going back into their childhoods. From these machines are created beautiful soft, fine 80% Australian Merino wool blend and machine washable socks which are then hand dyed in the studio of The Odd Sockery. These Socks have a story to tell.
Hand Cranked in Clunes where they have a significant historical connection to textile manufacturing. Clunes Interknit Woollen Mills operated in Clunes from 1939 and was reknown for the manufacture of socks during the war years and beyond.
The Odd Sockery have now revived this part of our local History together with that same Interknit Factory, now located in Ballarat.
Bringing Sock Making back to Clunes one pair at a time…
